Why we do what we do
Jul 18, 2024
Female education is critically important for so many reasons.
Education empowers women to make informed decisions about their lives, health and future.
Educated women are more likely to find employment, earn higher incomes and contribute to the economic growth of their communities and countries.
Educated women have healthier families.
Education fosters critical thinking, creativity and problem-solving skills which are essential for addressing social issues and promoting positive change.
Education helps challenge gender norms and stereotypes, promoting greater gender equality in all aspects of life, including politics, economics and social interactions.
When women are educated, they are better equipped to lift themselves and their families out of poverty.
Educated women are more likely to participate in civic and political activities, advocating for their rights and influencing policy decisions that affect their lives.
Overall, investing in female education not only benefits individual women but also contributes to broader societal development and progress. We have seen firsthand every single one of these benefits over the past 25 years of educating girls in Nepal. We are so very proud of the achievements of the Little Sisters in the classroom, but we are even more impressed by the young women they have become. The change they are creating in the world is a testament to the change YOU have made in their lives. Thank you! Dhanyabaad!

New Little Sister Profile: Grishma
Grishma's parents come from a poor village in far western Nepal. Her father was forced to quit school after 8th grade to take care of his family. After her mother finished high school, they got married, started a family and moved to Kathmandu in search of a better life. Now, they are once again bearing the burden of supporting their family as Grishma's grandmother and cousins live with them following the death of her uncle. They are trying to provide for all of their family's needs on the very limited income Grishma's father earns in his junior position with the Nepal police. Grishma was about to drop out of school when LSF stepped in to help.
Grishma enjoys going to school and learning new things. Her favorite subject is English. She helps her mother with household chores like washing dishes and preparing vegetables. She likes to dance at school events and during her free time. Grishma hopes to be a doctor in the future.
