Opportunity
The seeds of OPPORTUNITY were sown long before the founding of Little Sisters Fund.
Trevor, Bindhya and Usha
When Trevor was 12 years old, a family friend, Ric Ohrstrom, offered to support his education at St. Paul’s School (SPS) in New England. Trevor was accepted and the OPPORTUNITY to attend SPS made a profound and lasting difference in Trevor’s life. Ever since his time at SPS, Trevor has had a deep desire to “pay it forward” by similarly supporting the education of others.
The same is true of Usha. Forced to leave home at a young age, she was ultimately able to go to school where she excelled academically and took advantage of this educational OPPORTUNITY.
Trevor and Usha’s lives came together in October 1998 while Trevor was trekking in Nepal. Seeing so many children out of school and recognizing Usha as an expert in the fields of education and human rights, Trevor asked Usha if she knew of a child whose education he could sponsor. “There is not a child, there is a girl,” was Usha’s response. The rest is history.
Today, LSF supports thousands of at-risk girls each year by providing OPPORTUNITY through safety, education, mentoring and empowerment.

Bindhya, the very first Little Sister, has gone on to become a nurse and has supported the education of two Little Sisters herself. Annually, LSF has hundreds of high school graduates enrolling in higher education at rates more than four times Nepal’s national average.
Little Sisters who were once at risk of dropping out of school, marrying early and having children at a young age are now realizing their full potential. They have become empowered young women who have the leadership skills and the educational resources they need to break the cycle of poverty and become changemakers for themselves, their families and their communities.

Our Partners
Little Sisters Fund works with over 100 partners on a consistent and regular basis.
LSF partner schools help us complete community projects, monitor the well-being and safety of Little Sisters, and identify girls at risk of dropping out of school who would benefit from LSF's support.
Our largest number of and most important partners are the 95 partner schools we work with in 21 districts in Nepal. We also work with NWCSC (Nepal Women’s Center for Social Change), Women LEAD and The Global Uplift Project.
LSF receives both foundational and individual support from organizations and donors around the world. We have also seen an increasing amount of in-country support from alumni, staff and friends in Nepal.
